FAQs

What happens if the bike is damaged or stolen?

If that happens, let us know as soon as possible so we can do what we can to help. Your own contents insurance will often cover theft or damage of a hire bike- check the terms and conditions with your insurer. We need the name of your insurer and the policy number. If you accepted our theft insurance ($5p/week), you’re covered, but it doesn’t cover damage.  The excess you need to pay is $500.  There are some conditions, in particular, the bike must be locked with the folding lock that we give you and it must kept inside locked overnight. The excess you need to pay is $500.

Do the bikes need to be charged?

Yes, it’s super easy. Just plug it in like your phone. The bikes come with a charger. If you don’t have a power-point where you bike is being parked you can remove the battery and bring it inside to charge. Handy huh?

How Payment Works

Recurring Card Payment

If you choose to hire beyond the period initially paid for, we automatically charge your card that is stored in our system every four weeks. We pass on the processing fees of 2.9% + 30c. You can also choose to pay for the full duration of the hire upfront to avoid any processing fees or pay by automatic payment.

Will I be stranded if my battery runs out?

Nope, you can always pedal it like a regular bike- though it's pretty heavy! There are charge level indicators to see how much charge is left. It’s unlikely to be an issue unless you are doing really big rides or several large Wellington hills in a single session. This bike comes with a 400 w/hr battery which is fine for most people's commutes in Wellington city.  You can add a second battery as an optional extra if you need.

Do I need insurance?

Yes. Often your own contents insurance will cover the bike. If this isn’t the case for you, we do have theft insurance available for $5 p/week- it doesn’t cover damage- the bike must be locked with the lock we give you and kept inside overnight. The excess you need to pay if using our insurance is $500.

I want to swap my bike for a different now one is that ok?

Yes, it is. Each rider can swap once for free, and after that for $50 each swap. We usually need to do some preparation to swap a bike, so give us a call to arrange it beforehand. If you’ve already swapped once and would like to swap again but aren’t sure if you’ll like the new bike, you can do a free test ride before committing.

Flat tire, or some other issue, and I'm stuck on the side of the road. What do I do?

Firstly, we make sure all our bikes have great tires for this exact reason. It makes punctures rare. Secondly, don’t panic. Give us a call. If you’re in Wellington City or Lower Hutt- and you can’t get the bike to our workshop- we can come to do a mobile repair, usually we can be there the same day. If you’re on the road and can’t move the bike, call us then you can lock the bike up and take a taxi, then we’ll collect the bike as soon as we’re able. This isn’t a 24hr service, but please still contact us out of hours and we’ll work out a solution together!
