FAQs
What happens if the bike is stolen?
If that happens, let us know as soon as possible so we can do what we can to help. Your own contents insurance will often cover theft or damage of a hire bike- check the terms and conditions with your insurer. If you accepted our theft insurance ($5p/week), you’re covered, but it doesn’t cover damage. The excess you need to pay is $500. There are some conditions, in particular, the bike is locked with the folding lock that we give you and is kept inside locked overnight. The excess you need to pay is $500.
Do the bikes need to be charged?
Yes, it’s super easy. Just plug it in like your phone. The bikes come with a charger. If you don’t have a power-point where you bike is being parked you can remove the battery and bring it inside to charge.
Will I be stranded if my battery runs out?
Nope, you can always pedal it like a regular bike! Plus, the battery life is surprisingly good and there are charge level indicators. It’s unlikely to be an issue unless you are doing really big rides or several large Wellington hills in a single session. Most riders can ride at least 60km before needing to charge.
Do I need insurance?
Yes. Often your own contents insurance will cover the bike. If this isn’t the case for you, we do have theft insurance available for $5 p/week- it doesn’t cover damage- the bike must be locked with the lock we give you and kept inside overnight. The excess you need to pay if using our insurance is $500.
I want to swap my bike for a different now one is that ok?
Yes, it is. Each rider can swap once for free, and after that for $50 each swap. We usually need to do some preparation to swap a bike, so give us a call to arrange it beforehand. If you’ve already swapped once and would like to swap again but aren’t sure if you’ll like the new bike, you can do a free test ride before committing.
Flat tire, or some other issue, and I'm stuck on the side of the road. What do I do?
Firstly, we make sure all our bikes have great tires for this exact reason. It makes punctures rare. Secondly, don’t panic. Give us a call. If you’re in Wellington City or Lower Hutt- and you can’t get the bike to our workshop- we can come to do a mobile repair, usually we can be there the same day. If you’re on the road and can’t move the bike, call us to troubleshoot. If it can't be fixed over the phone, you can lock the bike up and we’ll collect the bike as soon as we’re able. This isn’t a 24hr service, but please still contact us out of hours because if we can help straight away we will.
If I commit for longer, is the price cheaper?
Yes, you can choose to hire for a minimum of 12 weeks and the price per week is lower. Choose the 12 week minimum product instead. If you're not sure, you can switch to the 12 week minimum period at any point during your rental and your weekly payment will reduce to the lower rate from that point on (i.e. the lower price is not retrospective).
