Welly on Wheels Guided Rides

Try your local cycle route! Get to know the route and street changes, build cycling confidence and skills, and learn about interesting features along the way!
These events are organised by Wellington City Council and the bike tours are led by Pedal Ready.
Each ride starts and ends at Switched On Bikes on the waterfront near Waitangi Park.
Rides in May are a part of Bike the Bays! A celebration of cycling and new cycle paths connecting the eastern suburbs to the city.
Bike collection: If borrowing a bike, collect it 30 min prior to start time. The event ends back at Switched on Bikes
May Dates-Bike the Bays!
Thursday 21st May 2026, 5:30 - 8pm: Kilbirnie / Newtown Ride to Kilbirnie and back through Newtown to the city including Stargazing!
June Dates
Sunday 7th June 2026, 10am -12pm: Karori Ride to Karori and return to the city
Thursday 11th June 2026, 5:30 - 8pm: Ngaio Ride to Ngaio and return to the city including Stargazing!
Saturday 20th June 2026, 2pm - 4pm: Island Bay Ride to Island Bay and back to the city
When booking, please be sure to select the day that matches the route you want to ride!
Registration is $20, which also covers e-bike hire from Switched on Bikes! If you’re bringing your own bike, no problem! We’ll refund you $20 at the end of the ride. Use of an e-bike for this tour is strongly recommended.
- Allow 2 hours.
- Please arrive 30 minutes early if you are renting a bike.
Please note that we will not give any refunds for late cancellations, within 48 hours of the event.
These rides are suitable for people who:
- know how to ride a bike but aren't yet cycling in the city; or
- are cycling in the city but would like to gain confidence; or
- want to learn how to use new cycling infrastructure.
Open to riders aged 18+ (or 13+ if accompanied by an adult). Families are also welcome to bring younger children on cargo bikes or bike seats provided by themselves. Please enquire directly with Switched on Bikes if you'd like to borrow a bike seat for the tour.
- If you're feeling extra enthusiastic and want to extend your bike hire, you're welcome to hold onto the bike overnight and return it before 9:30am to Switched on Bikes at no extra charge!
- There's also the option to hold onto the bike all day the following day for a discounted cost of $39.
- Please discuss your intentions with us on the day.
Note: this event may be postponed or cancelled at short notice in the event of extreme or adverse weather. If this occurs, we will notify you as soon as possible using the contact phone number you provide during registration.
